1922 Lewis Homes of Character

Bungalows by Lewis Manufacturing

1922 Lewis Homes of CharacterThough we've published a number of plans from the 1922 catalog at Antique Home Style, we wanted to contrast the differences between the 1916 and 1922 home plans.

In 1916, the largest number of plans in the catalog were bungalows, most of which sported California-style names after various missions and towns in the Golden State. Santa Monica and San Mateo were good examples of the influence California played in extending the popularity of the bungalow not only as a house, but as a life style.

By 1922, though bungalows were still being built, the style had become more modern and the Craftsman characteristics were being streamlined or dropped altogether. The names also became more eclectic and less focused on California origins.
